Exploring Heritage and Modern Chinese Medicine
The Learning Forward 2024 Winter Programme combined cultural exploration with career development, inspiring students to discover how traditional knowledge connects with modern professions. Through an immersive visit to Lui Seng Chun, students gained valuable insights into heritage preservation and emerging opportunities in healthcare and cultural industries.
During the visit, students gained valuable insights into the evolution of Chinese medicine. They explored how traditional remedies have adapted to modern lifestyles, including the use of convenient powdered formulas and pre-boiled, packaged medicines. Students also discovered various Chinese medicinal plants and their uses, learning how natural ingredients form the foundation of traditional healing practices. This blend of history and innovation highlighted the ongoing relevance of Chinese medicine in today’s world.
Students also discovered the architectural and historical significance of Lui Seng Chun, one of Hong Kong's iconic tenement buildings. They learned about the unique design features that catered to both residential and commercial needs, reflecting the city’s cultural and social evolution. This exploration provided a deeper appreciation for the role of tenement buildings in shaping Hong Kong’s urban landscape.
