On Youth Day 2024, Asia Education Society organized a cultural tour for Sham Shui Po families, giving them a chance to experience Hakka culture in Hong Kong. Sham Shui Po district has a population of 434,100 (5.8% of Hong Kong's population) and a median monthly household income of $24,100 , which makes it one of the denser and poorer districts in Hong Kong.

The tour started at Tsang Tai Uk, one of Hong Kong’s best-preserved walled villages, where families explored the historical architecture.
After a hearty lunch, participants dove into making their own cha gwo, a traditional Hakka snack. Laughter filled the air as families crafted their unique creations, which they later shared and savored together. This fun and interactive activity not only sparked creativity but also allowed families to bond and celebrate Mother's Day a little early.
Our final stop was Kang Yung Study Hall in the Hakka village of Sheung Wo Hang in Sha Tau Kok, where we learned about its educational significance.
Rain or shine, the day was filled with joy and cultural discovery, leaving families with wonderful memories and a deeper appreciation for Hakka heritage in Hong Kong.
